Petty Tactics to Stifle Criticism

I am amazed by this story. The GOP are trying to stop several groups from putting out anti-bush commercials saying it will 'close the gap' between Bush money and Kerrey. That's laughable enough considering bush's outrageous sum of money he is spending on this campaign. But on top of that they are trying to circumnavigate our judicial system and asking the FEC to dismiss the complaint so they can quickly get it to a federal court.

Is this normal campaign-time tactics? Bush $170 mil against Kerrey $30 seems like such a great divide that these attacks look petty. Yes, the FEC determined in february that any communication criticizing or championing a candidate is taken into account as so called "soft money."

So he's up to maybe $50 mil with these ads? Would they be bothering with these lawsuits if bush's approval rating was 70% instead of less than 50%?
